A former mission school in a quiet river valley, now a golf resort
St. Eugene sits on the St. Mary’s River ten minutes out of Cranbrook. Ktunaxa communities own it, and its oldest building was once a residential school. The history shows everywhere, from the corridor photographs to the Ktunaxa names on the golf holes.
This guide is for people deciding whether to stay. It covers which building to sleep in, what’s open in which season and a few things the booking page leaves out.

What’s here
- Architecture and history
Original brickwork and hand-hewn timbers in the Mission building, a lighter Lodge next door, and the story of how a residential school became a Ktunaxa-owned resort.
- Rooms and suites
Thirteen room types across two buildings. Which one to pick, where dogs can stay and what the suites add.
- Golf, pool and dining
Eighteen holes beside the St. Mary’s River, a heated pool that stays open in winter, three places to eat and five walks nearby.
- The casino building
What’s inside, opening hours and the 19+ rule. It’s a separate building; staying at the hotel doesn’t mean going in.
- Getting there
Ten minutes from Cranbrook and five from YXC airport. Drive times from Kimberley, Fernie and Calgary.
Where the information comes from
Everything here comes from the resort’s own published information. We haven’t inspected the rooms ourselves, and we don’t give star ratings or scores. Hours and prices change, so confirm anything that matters on the resort’s website before you pay.
